Bilal ibn Rabah was a slave from Abyssinia (today, it is known as Ethiopia). He lived in Mecca when Prophet Muhammad began calling people to worship One God. Bilal heard Prophet Muhammad's message and became exceptionally close to him. Bilal had the honor of waking the Prophet each morning and spending as much time with him as possible. After migration to Medina, Prophet Muhammad began setting up the Muslim nation. Bilal was at his side whenever possible and played a vital role in the establishment of the Muslim community.

Prophet Muhammad was concerned about finding a unique way to summon Muslims to prayer. Abdullah ibn Zaid had a dream about calling Muslims to prayer, and he shared it with the Prophet. Prophet Muhammad recognized the importance of the dream and asked Bilal, without any hesitation, to give the call because of his beautiful voice. After the Muslim forces conquered Mecca, Bilal ascended to the top of the Kaba to call the believers to prayer, making history and paving the way for generations to come.

After the Prophet's death, Bilal stopped calling the adhan in Medina, but his legacy continued to inspire generations to come. Bilal was not just a slave, but a man of piety, faith, and courage. His story is a testament to the fact that a person's race, ethnicity, or social status is not a measure of their worth. It is their piety and devotion to God that defines them.
